Homeschooling has pros and cons. A pro would be that for a whole year of curriculum is only about $500. A con is that you will be out of social life for the whole school day. However, you can join homeschooling groups, where you can still learn. If you have any more questions, just ask!
ok. I am homeschooled right now, I know my mom goes through abeka.com they are the best. remember don’t saxon math. I am in it and next year we are changing to abeka math other than that here is the things we go through to get my curriculum.

There are many different kinds of homeschooling. They are types that the parent is in control of everything and sets up the whole curriculum. Then they are kinds where you are associated with a school and you use books that you pay for. They are also kinds that you can use on the computer (by way of internet). The price of the homeschooling depends on which curriculum you use.
The type of homeschooling i use is called Alpha and Omega Academy. It is an online homeschool program. I correspond with my teachers by e-mails or phone. I really like this program.
When you are homeschooled, you have to send in your attendance records to your state education board, which is very easy. I have been homeschooled since 9th grade, and i am now in 11th. I highly recommend it, if the student is willing to work hard and be responsible and independent.
If you have any other questions, you can e-mail me!
: )
Hope this helps.
Vettec/bl is way off about socialization. Studies have shown time and time again that time with adults is how kids learn to be adults not time with people of the same age.
Time with peers is needed for friendship and that’s why there are tons of home school groups out there to get involved in. Plus other activities like boy scout’s, soccer, play groups, etc.
My advice is to curriculum like A Beka. The curriculum its self is wonderful and it has daily lesson plans made for you, if you need help. Plus the whole thing is scripted so if you’re not sure what to say or how to begin, they’ve got you covered.
Well first thing to do is find out the particular laws on homeschooling in your state before doing anything else. Some states require nothing and other expect testing and curiculum.
Once you find that out thru hslda.com- homeschool legal defense association- they list all the laws then you can move forward and research what would be best for the child.
How do they learn? You can go with a curriculum, you can make up your own curriculum from several resources, you can go thru a charter school, you can unschool which is learning thru everyday life. It is endless what you can do for their education.
A person can learn almost anything by going to the library and going on the internet. All the information is there for almost free in most cases or you can go with an expensive curriculum or go thru the public school system and get everything provided for you, but be under the government.
I did research for many years before having our Daughter. We Unschool because she is a self learner and very bright. We go to the library and also find anything we need on the internet. She learns everyday from the moment she wakes up til she goes to sleep. Learning is fun for her. It doesn’t have to be tedious and forced upon her. This is what works for us, but not children respond well to this. You have to find out how your child learns best and go that route.
I wish you the best. I highly recommend homeschooling. It allows you the freedom to teach the child in their time and without being under the control of the government.
No one can give you all you need to know about homeschooling! It sounds like your aunt needs to do more research, focusing on specific questions rather than general info. Obviously she needs to know the local laws, then she needs to consider what style she’d like to implement, then what sort of learner her child is and get about choosing resources that suit both her child and her philosophies of education. It’s certainly not something you can learn all you need to know about in a few hours of web searching. Maybe if you post some more specific questions we’ll be able to help more.
The price all depends. You can spend nothing or all your spare cash. It depends what curriculum choices are made. There are some things I spend quite a bit of money on, and other things where library books are perfectly ok. If your aunt chooses an educational method to more or less follow, she can join some online groups. Many methods have message boards (I’m on The Well Trained Mind board) as do curriculum companies (I’m one one for Math on the Level and Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding.) The best thing for your aunt is to attend a homeschooling convention if at all possible.
Why don’t you give http://www.flvs.net a shot.
It’s an online school, completely free unlike regular homeschooling which can cause you hundreds of bucks for the supplies. You barley need the regular supplies that the traditional school does. It’s great, you only have to do four assignments a week and their easy! You can do your homework anytime of the day. All you really need is a working computer, printer(would be great, that way you don’t have to go to the library to print stuff up), working phone. I think it’s a great idea. But one thing you must consider, you MUST be motivated in order to succeed on the online schooling. Also it doesn’t look bad on a transcript for college, usually home schooled students do better in college cause they are motivated than traditional school students

Believe it or not the public school system in their area could probably set them in the right direction. Here is the thing about home school in my personal opinion: Your children need to be able to learn how to develop friendships, interact with those they don’t like- getting out into the real world and the job world are a lot like high school. You have people you enjoy, people you don’t, and bosses/teachers if you will. It is very important that a child can connect with people their own age or them may find it hard to connect with people in their future. Often times it can make a 20 something over whelmed or unconnected when building relationships. Not every relationship you have in life is like your family relationships. Please have your Aunt weight the pros and cons of this. Thx! Good luck with the search.
